Spotlight
Spotlight is a high-impact banner and call-to-action card for landing pages. Set a background, keep the headline readable on anything, and point people to what matters with up to two buttons. It runs client-side as the signed-in user and has no data source of its own.
Permissions
Spotlight needs no permissions to run. Only the optional audience targeting uses a single read-only Microsoft Graph scope, GroupMember.Read.All, which an admin approves. If that check cannot run, it fails open and the banner still shows.
Set up
- Install the package (see the Install guide). Approve the audience-targeting scope only if you want it.
- Edit a page → add the GCK Spotlight web part.
- In the property pane, pick a mode, set the background, write the headline and add your buttons.
Modes
- Banner - a full-width banner for the top of a page, with height and padding controls.
- Call-to-action card - a compact card that sits inside a section, with a searchable icon or an uploaded image.
Background and legibility
- Background - a theme gradient, an uploaded image or a solid colour.
- Scrim - an adjustable legibility scrim over the background, with automatic contrast so the headline stays readable.
- Focus - a nine-point focus dial keeps the important part of a large image in frame as the banner reflows.
Buttons
Add up to two call-to-action buttons, each styled as primary, secondary or outline, pointing anywhere you need people to go.
Audience targeting
Optionally show the banner only to chosen Microsoft 365 or security groups. Everyone else sees the page without it. This is the only feature that uses a Graph permission, and it fails open.
Spotlight is responsive, matches your site theme, and needs no code.
