Make it yours

Configured from the property pane, no code.

Everything is set from SharePoint's standard web-part panel, so any site owner can shape the news without a developer.

Eight editorial layouts

Editorial (bento) and Mosaic (masonry) plus Grid, List, Featured, Magazine, Carousel and Headlines. A dominant lead story, asymmetric tiles and a magazine flow - the kind of layout native SharePoint news simply does not offer.

Curate the front page

Native news is locked to publish date. Here, in edit mode, you pin a story to the top, reorder pinned stories, and flag one as Breaking - so the story that matters leads, not just the most recent one.

Style every card

Colour-coded source pills per site, an accent colour of your choice, scrim or solid-panel titles that pop over the image, New and Breaking badges, and rounded or square corners. Make it look designed, not default.

Pick your source

Show the news from this site, or from a set of sites you choose using a live tenant search, combined into one feed - and every reader still sees only the posts they already have access to.

Audience targeting

Show the right news to the right people. Target each web part to Microsoft 365 or security groups, so a page can carry the same part with different news for different teams.

Never blocks the page

Cards paint immediately and thumbnails load in after, so the web part is never in the way. Every layout matches your site theme, light and dark, and reads well on any device.

Where your news comes from

One site, or exactly the ones you choose.

Point the web part at exactly the news you want. Selected sites are picked from a live tenant search, and every reader still sees only the posts they already have access to.

This site

Simplest

Show the news posts published on the current site. Ideal for a team, project or department page that leads with its own updates.

Selected sites

Curated

Pick a set of sites from a live tenant search and combine their news into one feed, so a hub can gather updates from the sites that matter.

Across hubs

Reach

The sites you pick can span hubs and departments, so one page gathers the updates that matter from wherever they are published, without dragging in noise.

Reads as you. One optional, read-only scope.

Newsroom is read as the signed-in user, so everyone sees only the posts they already have access to, and no Microsoft Graph permission is needed for the content itself. Only the optional audience targeting uses a single read-only Graph permission, GroupMember.Read.All, which your admin approves. If it is not granted, targeting simply fails open and the news still shows.

Questions

Newsroom FAQ

Where does News get its content?

From your published SharePoint news, read as the signed-in user. Choose this site, a set of selected sites, or a tenant-wide search. No Graph permission is needed for the news itself.

What layouts are there?

Six: grid, list, featured, magazine, carousel and headlines, with column controls, thumbnails, authors and relative dates.

Can I show the feed to certain people only?

Yes. Optional audience targeting shows the whole feed only to the Microsoft 365 or security groups you choose, using one read-only scope, GroupMember.Read.All, that fails open.

How is News licensed?

Newsroom is licensed per tenant with unlimited users and sites, from £29/month, on a 14-day free trial. A card is required to start the trial; cancel before it ends and you are not charged. There are no licence keys to manage: activate your tenant once in the customer portal and the app licenses itself automatically.
